OF BRICKS & BREATH

The team skillfully integrated the use of locally sourced materials to transform the production factory and redefine the experience for the workers. The play with raw bricks that forms the outer skin of the factory brings in daylight and ventilation to an otherwise stifling working environment. The well orchestrated landscape serves as a breathing space, creating a new paradigm to the conventional factory typology.

With the principle of Connecting People, Embracing Nature, the new office is envisioned to maximize the interactions between people, nature and space. People-centric nodes, located throughout the building, are designed to facilitate social activities and human interactions within the office, from leisure, networking to discussions.

The proposed temple is a reflection of the Taoist belief and tradition in a contemporary approach. The design emphasizes on its connection with the community as well as the nature around, to bring about a spacious and well ventilated interior. The aluminum parametric façade takes inspiration from the core values of the temple association and serves as a sun shading device.

A NATURE CENTRIC CAMPUS IN THE TROPICS

The project is a tertiary education institution, Centre for Banking Studies, in an urban area of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The overall massing of the blocks is shaped by the dynamic relationships between formal learning and collaborative spaces. Lush greenery is injected into all levels to facilitate a close interaction with nature. The circulation spaces of the lower communal decks are fluid to allow students to flow freely into these spaces and encourage more social interaction. The design is forward-looking and pays homage to the rich Cambodian culture, while resiliently facing the challenges of the tropical climate.
